Pasticceria Rocco | Bay Ridge | Brooklyn

Black & White Cannoli
Rocco's Exclusive: Black & White Cannoli
Summary: 4.2/5.0 Gorgeous cafΓ© (serving up breakfast/lunch too) and ambiance without the legions of tourists from the West Village store.

Rocco Generoso, Sr. began Rocco's Pastry some 40 years ago in the heart of West Village's Bleecker Street slinging cannolis & pastries to New Yorkers (today it's mostly tourists), and the Generoso family recently made the heart-warming decision to bring their love for the business back to their hometown to continue the next chapter.

Rocco's Storefront
9402 4th Ave Brooklyn, NY 11209
Location: It beautifully anchors the corner of the busy 4th Ave. intersection, (There's usually ample paid parking across the street) and pays homage to the Generoso family's West Village bakery, albeit a tad smaller. Everything is made either on-premises or at Bleecker St.

I stopped in the day they had planned to grand open, but they were still setting up.  It wasn't until nearly a week and a half later that I was able to make my way back.  This time, all the displays were lit up and decked out in cookies, cakes, and other baked goodies... I really had trouble focusing on what I wanted (because they all looked so damn good and fresh).

Food: I couldn't find time to sit down as I had errands to run but after a few minutes deliberating, I decided to take to-go: lobstertail, chocolate cannoli, oreo cheesecake, and a napoleon.  The cannoli was filled with ricotta on-the-spot just like at Bleeker St. The only letdowns were that they didn't have the black and white (chocolate) cannoli shells at the time and the Napoleons looked better than they tasted.

I polished off the choc. cannoli once I got home. A-maz-ing!

Sfogliatella (Lobster Tail)

The lobstertail, also good too, was humongous and overflowing with cream... and I'm a sucker for flaky textures.  They also have the traditional sfogliatelle too, if you prefer those. The napoleon was good, although probably eclipsed by the other offerings. The Oreo cheesecake, perhaps my favorite, was rich, dense, and layered with chocolate along with a chocolate crust. This would work well with an espresso drink.

I've had a chance to return and the black and white cannoli are as good as I imagined them.

Service: It was top notch, as the people behind the counter answered every tough question I threw at  them with grace while boxing up my goodies. Grazie!  Also, I spied a grill behind the counter for which they serve up breakfast and lunch options not currently available at Bleeker St., so I'll be anxious to try that out one day. I heard this menu was revamped at the end of December (2014).

In conclusion, If you're a sweet tooth like me, you'll want to make a stop here... without being bombarded up to your armpits with annoying tourists!  I like ambiance and the ability to hear myself think, don't you? This goes on my list of must-visit places in Bay Ridge but be aware of what you're ordering. As with all things away from the original store, the less popular items can be a hit or miss.

  1. Espresso drink is a rich habit of the american people. But we need to drink it outside at home in a coffee shop. But many people now make their favorite espresso drink at home with some best quality espresso maker. There is Top 10 espresso maker with less price https://toolercoffee.com/best-espresso-machine-under-200/
