Oh! Taisho | East Village

Definitely a place you can count on for your drunken revelries. Watch your step, though!  (It's actually below ground level)  Yakitori which is a favorite here complement the Japanese izakaya found here amongst the other popular option in St. Marks, East Village.

Who can blame them?  The smell exuding from the restaurant is nothing short of grilled deliciousness.  Just don't confuse this location with their similarly named neighbor, Yakitori Taisho (9 St. Marks is a few doors over), and equally popular Kenka further down the street.

Seating is swift on late nights during the mid-week.  However, if you decide to eat here around dinner time and late friday/saturday nights, that could be a challenge.  Wait times can reach... 30-60mins long for a table, much like all the other establishments in the area including nearby Yakitori Taisho and Kenka. The wait is also far less if you sit by the grill and watch the chefs perform their magic.

Had the party set which is a ton of skewers (30) enough to feed an army (three people). Although I've been here before (I've also had the okonomiyaki and other izakaya fare), we chose to polish just that off with some sake/shoju.

The restaurant isn't as tiny as nearby Yakitori Taisho, which isn't saying it's any better or worse... just be mindful of trying to seat any more than four people, at either place for that matter, so try them both!  Be aware, some pictures posted online, may, belong to the other restaurant, and vice versa.
