Harry & Ida's Meat & Supply Co | Alphabet City | Manhattan

Image
While few places in the city resonate in my heart, you'll be happy to hear that Harry & Ida's is one of them- They hit the nail on the head with a resounding, satisfactory bang!  You'll also be hard pressed to hear me use the word best, because "best" is subjective nearly impossible to achieve.  However, they do collect a 4.9/5.0 and here's why... Rustic & artisanal permeates from just about every corner Rest assured, Will and Julie Horowitz's Alphabet City (East Village) smoked meats deli store won't supplant Katz's anytime soon, and they're not meant to. They are different .  Known to smoke everything under the sun, including pastrami, once you step into the store, it smells absolutely wonderful. Visiting it is an experience all to itself, and I'm sure it was intended that way.  Rustic and artisanal permeates from just about every corner, especially their product as we discovered this place with  DipsDines  one afternoon.  If you...

The Baroness Bar: Last Unicorn Burger | LIC | Queens

Image
The Baroness in Long Island City (known by many to be a burger haven) is the latest to introduce a new burger incarnation, one of only a few allowed to collaborate with The Bagel Store, dubbed The Last Unicorn Burger.  Their cozy atmosphere, accessibility and friendly service did for the most part, lend itself to our 4.7/5.0 rating. The bar feat. The Baroness (Courtesy of Thrillist) The Baroness is easy to visit to as they're right off the Queensboro Plaza (N/Q/7) stop, which is barely ten minutes outside of midtown.  Although they're on a side street nestled between corporate buildings (Crescent St), you really can't miss them either.  Their gated entrance, dimly lit interior, and cool music/vibe will draw just about anyone in.  Ambiance is as-expected of bars; Happy hour drinks will also draw office workers in, but the main draw here are their burgers, even before the latest resurgence of craft burgers began taking NYC by storm. un'wings, chipotle-dusted w/honey mu...

mŏkbar | Chelsea | Manhattan

Editor's Notes: Featured Read of the Day on Yelp   ROTD 11/15/2015 They say true genius often strikes in the pale moments between awake and asleep. I must have been sleepwalking all these years because I haven't truly had Korean-style ramen until today and the experience I had, by definition, was a culinary eye-opener. This brings us to why we feel mŏkbar is deserving of 4.8/5.0 mŏkbar Chelsea market entrance mŏkbar, the brainchild of NJ-native Esther Choi, began operating in Chelsea Market in May of 2014, billed as the first Korean-style ramen in the city.  (They're situated across from Los Tacos #1 which I'm not a fan of... you can read my review on that.)  Riding on a wave of high acclaim from media outlets, Esther's Food Network appearance on Beat Bobby Flay (aired Sept 4, 2014, in case you're interested) catapulted the restaurant into the cross hairs of the masses for better or worse. Having cut her teeth with experience at ilili, and La Esquina also helped...
